This top class renovated hotel is where Royalty and Presidents stay when they visit the city of Medellin in Columbia, and I had the honour of staying there when the (now former) President of Columbia, Mr Uribes, and the Prince and Princess of Astoria (Spain) were there.
The hotel provides its guests with delightful gardens. The most beautiful hotel and set on a steep hillside, this establishment is finished to the highest standard, with marble floors and columns and walls in abundance.
It has the latest technology, including access to
high-speed Internet in all rooms and wireless Internet in public areas.
The property also features a lobby with 24-hour reception and check-out
service, a hotel safe, currency exchange facilities, lift access, a
hairdressing salon and a children's playground. Guests may dine in the
restaurant and spend their evenings in the bar or disco. Business guests
are sure to appreciate the conference facilities. Room and laundry
services provide additional convenience.
Located in a residential area,
the nearest city, Medellin, is located at a distance of 5 km in the lush
district of 'The Village'. The road down to the city is quite steep and very twisted. Medellin is known as the city of 'eternal
spring' due to its location in a valley surrounded by mountains,
although the highlights are the 'los paisas', the happy and friendly
people. The hotel is a short drive away from the Museum of Antioquia,
which houses the sculptures of world-renowned artist Fernando Botero.
Medellin is a perfect destination for those travelling on business or
pleasure. The rooms, depending on their location, offer views of the
city, the mountains or the recreational area. They have a complete and
sophisticated security system, and are all equipped with a king-size
bed, two direct dial telephone lines, voice-mail, Internet access, a
minibar, an electronic safe and a work desk. They also provide
individually regulated air conditioning, a TV with 60 satellite/cable
channels, a radio and an en suite bathroom with a shower and
hairdryer.Recreational facilities include a heated outdoor semi-Olympic
swimming pool, 2 large and well-lit tennis courts, a mini-golf course, a
jogging track, table tennis, basketball courts, volleyball and mini
football. There is also a spa offering massages and beauty treatments
(for a fee). Children can enjoy their own swimming area. Sun loungers
and parasols are laid out for use. Active guests can join an aerobics
class or work out in the gym. The hot tub and sauna ensure complete
relaxation.
* Some services at an extra charge
Given its elevated position on the mountainside, this hotel overlooks the city of Medellin and at night time, the view is spectacular. For extra comfort, it also offers two floors of Club InterContinental rooms, which provide special privileges such as private check-in and check-out, Club Lounge, happy hour, and private breakfast. Medellin is a top destination for both leisure and business travellers.
The reception staff are most helpful, and speak very good English, but most are multilingual.
Meals, especially breakfast, are most appetising. The surroundings are most impressive. Rooms are very large, extremely clean, and equipped with very modern facilities. These are reached by a system of lifts, or escalators, which are large and clean.
Visit http://www.intercontinental.com/intercontinental/en/gb/locations/mdeha and get a better view of this hotel than I have given - indeed I could not do justice to this marvellous establishment in a few words.
Flights to Medellin are not always straight-forward, especially from Europe. However, if you were in possession of how to get the cheapest flights to your destination would prove helpful.
I have discovered this website . It will let you into the inside secrets of how to books cheap flight and hotels, hire cars and even travel insurance. Click here and be informed and taught how to get the best out of your travel.

Hotel California, Palo Alto, California
This was a bed- or room-only establishment, where breakfast was served in a restaurant along the street, which was rather inconvenient. The room was cramped, but adequate for the single traveller.
Palo Alto is close to the famous Stanford University. I would not recommend this hotel, except perhaps for those travelling on a budget. It lacks a communal area, and there is no dining room/area.

Hotel Bristol Stephanie, Brussels
Perhaps the most elegant and top class 4* hotel we ever stayed in - albeit for one night only. The rooms are enormous, and the facilities superb. Located on the trendy Avenue Louisa in Brussels, it is close to interesting places, such as the Palace de Justice, and a short walk to the Grande Place. Close to this is the famous Mannikin Plas.
The Hotel is grande, and the entrance area most impressive, and atmospheric. Meals were excellent. Ideal for both the tourist and the business traveller. Service superb. Hotel has elegance twinned with comfort and luxury. The lift to the upper floors looks a bit antiquated and is quite small and cramped. However, it is well worth a stay, even for a few nights.

H10 Salauris Palace, Salou
A brilliant hotel 4*, well positioned, and part of an international chain of hotels. About 800 from sea front. Very clean and spacious. Great swimming pools - fr adults and for children. Full entertainment programme every day. Food was good, especially the breakfasts, though for two weeks, the evening dinners became a bit repetitive. For dinner, it was advisable to be in the dining room as soon as it opens. Staff were Spanish, and some of them were very pleasant to work with. Rooms spacious and had a free safe, which was most appreciated. Had a roof-top jacuzzi and sun-bathing area with spectacular views right over to the theme park at Fortaventura. Bus trips to Barcelona go from here quite regularly.
There was a full programme of events on for all the family, and the evening entertainment was mediocre - at best.
Salou was beautiful. Had a long beach which was most pleasant to walk along. Boat trips were available. The fountains were something to see - spectacular, with their varying heights and added colour effects.
All in all, a good place to go to for a holiday. If you can afford it, it would be good to have a meal out on the occasional evening - just for a change.
